Living Marvelously is all about making the most of this life. To do that, you need to set goals and strive to improve your life. But, setting goals can seem hard. How do I pick one to work on? I have so many. Do they have to be big? Do they have to be SMART? How do I know they are good enough? So many questions! But, it doesn’t have to be hard. You just have to do it. Use these easy tips for goal setting to help.

18 Easy Tips for Goal Setting

First discover what your goals should be

  • If you don’t know what your goals should be, think about what you complain about. What do you not like about your life or yourself? Turn the complaint around and make it a goal. Knowing what you don’t want can make it easier to know what you do want.
  • What would make your life easier? Maybe it’s decluttering your home, losing weight, getting a new job, making more money or improving a relationship. Make it a goal.
  • When people ask how you are doing, how do you answer? Is it, “I’m so busy”, or “I’m bored”, or “I feel lousy”? What can you do to change that answer to “Great” and really mean it? Make it a goal.
  • Does your job or business need an upgrade? What would make it more enjoyable? What would make it more profitable? How can I educate myself to upgrade it?
  • Make sure this is your goal. Not what you think someone else wants you to do.

Goal setting tips

  • Be specific. Being clear on your goal will help both you and the Universe know what you want. It makes it easier to manifest and decide what to do when you know where you are going.

  • Choose 1-3 at a time. More than that will make you move in too many directions and you will lose focus on all of them.
  • Make sure your goal is worthwhile. Something that will actually make your life more meaningful and marvelous.
  • Be sure to stretch yourself. Making it easy to reach a goal will not create change in your habits that are necessary to make it last.
  • Know why you want to achieve this goal. How will it help you? How will it make you feel? Will it make a difference in your business or life?
  • What can you do today to start your journey? What baby steps will get you there?

  • Set deadlines. If the deadline comes and you haven’t accomplished your goal yet, think about whether you still want that goal and if so, set another deadline!
  • Write it down. Every day, week, month or year. Commit to achieving it. Let other people know what your goal is to make yourself accountable.
  • Stick to it! If you set a goal that is important to you, be persistent. Find a way to achieve it!
  • Check in on your goal everyday! Each morning while you are doing your journaling, ask yourself this question.

“What can I do today to reach my goals?” Then write it down and do that first thing.

  • Write affirmations in your journal to act as if your goal has already been achieved.
