Mother’s Day always brings up a lot of emotions for me. My mom Marvel is the inspiration for my blog Living Marvelously. She passed away in 2002 from breast cancer. I think about her and feel her presence every day, but on Mother’s Day, it takes a new meaning. But one of the biggest things I miss about my mom is the way she made us laugh. So, this year I thought I would just share some Mother’s Day fun.

Wherever your mother or your children are this year, let’s spread a little cheer and make each other smile.

Why was the house so neat on Mother’s Day?
Because Mom spent all day Saturday cleaning it.

If at first you don’t succeed, try doing it the way your mom told you in the beginning.

“I let my kids follow their dreams, unless I already paid the registration fee on their last dream, then they follow that for 6-8 more weeks.”

“When can we come see the baby? 4 am would be super helpful. Thanks.”

Mom, what’s it like to have the greatest daughter in the world?
I don’t know dear, ask your grandmother.

Mom: The amazing ability to hear a sneeze through 3 closed doors in the middle of the night, three bedrooms away… while Dad snores next to you.

What three words solves Dad’s every problem?
Ask your mother.

Nothing is lost until your mother can’t find it!

What mothers teach us about…

Anticipation – Just wait until your father gets home.

Logic – If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you’re not going to the store with me.

Justice – One day you’ll have kids and I hope they turn out just like you – then you’ll see what it’s like.

Some typical motherly advice

Because I’m your mother, that’s why.

Money does not grow on trees.

I’ve got eyes in the back of my head.

Because I said so.

What part of no don’t you understand?

Eat your food, there are children starving somewhere.

Don’t make that face or it will freeze in that position.

What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it, too?

Close that door! Were you born in a barn?

This is why we can’t have nice things.

If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.

Have you ever realized how talented mothers are?

They are…

  • Nurses
  • Teachers
  • Pastors
  • Chefs
  • Housekeepers
  • Peacemakers
  • Chauffeurs
  • Finance Managers
  • Event Planners
  • Comedians, and
  • Therapists

But all kidding aside, moms are pretty awesome! Even the ones who acted as a mother figure in your life.

In whatever manner works best for each mom, the ultimate goal is to raise children to be responsible and productive human beings.

And it doesn’t hurt to have some fun and laughter along the way.

So, share some Mother’s Day fun this year. Make your mother laugh and bring some light and fun into this time of being alone and a little afraid. Share with her your favorite ways she made you laugh. Thank her for just being her.

Of course, a nice gift would still be appreciated too:)

Happy Mother’s Day!
