As Thanksgiving and Christmas near, I wanted to share a few quick holiday wellness tips and a few quotes to ease you into the holiday season.
Be sure to take care of yourself to be mentally, physically, and spiritually healthy in this season, known for the stress.

Tip #1
Prepare a budget and stick to it.
Whatever you decide is the number for how much you will spend this year, stick to it. Having a plan ahead of time helps with being aware of when you are overspending.

Tip #2
Move your body every day.
Take walks, dance to a song, keep up with your classes, do some stretches in front of the TV, etc. With the extra food that gets eaten, it’s essential to keep your body moving.
You already know this. This year try making it a non-negotiable each day.

Tip #3
Accept compliments.
People tend to be in a good mood when they are out and about during the holiday season and may be handing out compliments. Accept them with gratitude. Accept the positive energy connection and maybe give some back. Treat them as little gifts.

Tip #4
Talk to someone if you are lonely.
Everyone feels pressured to be busy during the holiday season, so we tend to isolate ourselves. Try to maintain connections regularly. Be careful about comparisons and guilt during this season. Find joy in others’ company to avoid feeling lonely.
On the other hand, if you know someone alone, reach out to them. When we say, “We are all in this together,” it means we all have to take care of each other.

Lower your expectations.
You stress out over the holidays because you think it should look and feel like it does in the movies, at your friend’s house, or in magazines. Make it your own by doing the things that fit your lifestyle and make you happy.

Tip #6
Take off some pressure.
You don’t have to recreate the wheel. There are many gift guides out there. See what resonates with you and buy it or create it.

How many people will see your house this year? Probably not many, so put up as many decorations as you want to make you happy.

Make time for laughter.
WebMD wrote an article about why you need to add laughter to your life. In it, they say, “As it turns out, laughter is excellent medicine. So make time for it just as you would for a healthy meal, the exercise break, and deep breathing exercises. The great news about introducing a daily dose of laughter is that there are no known side effects, you can’t overdose, and so far, we have not documented any allergies to our laughing breaks.”
