Being creative is a skill we all have but it may need to be nurtured. You can only get better at it with practice. So, while we may all have a little free time on our hands, I am providing you with some practice. Try this 11-day creativity challenge to spark your imagination.
You were born creative, but then as you got older you were taught to be uncreative. As a child you used your imagination every day and then as you got older you learned that you were looked at differently if you didn’t conform to what the majority of people thought was “normal”.
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the meaning of creativity is, “the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.”
Your imagination is as unique as you are. Every invention started with someone’s imagination, so don’t let anyone stifle yours.

Another definition I found is, “transforming your imagination and dreams into reality.” Where have I heard that before? It’s called manifesting! Doing this creativity challenge can be a precursor to transforming your dreams into real life.
So, without further ado, have some fun and enjoy this creativity challenge. Do not judge anything you do. You do not have to show anyone, just let your imagination flow.
11 Day Creativity Challenge
Day 1
Paint a flower. If you don’t have paints in your house and are not able to get some, you can use markers or even just a pencil. I love painting flowers because you can really use your imagination. They can look any way you want them to and you can use any color you wish.
Here is a video from wikiHow if you need some help.
Day 2
Dance. Turn on your favorite music and just dance. Come up with new moves or as an added bonus, choreograph a routine. You could even look up dance routines and learn them. No two people will look the same, so don’t judge yourself. Just let go and move your body.
Here is a fun video with 100 Party Dance Moves you can learn.
Day 3
Draw a self-portrait. This can be a serious exercise or a goofy portrait. You can try to make it look like you or you can draw a caricature of some sort. Maybe you draw what you want to look like in 5 years?
There are a ton of YouTube videos on how to draw a self-portrait, but here is one for kids. This is an easy one for those of you (me) who don’t have great skills drawing realistically.
Day 4
Write a poem. There are many types. Acrostic, limerick, haiku, story, or just free verse are a few. Just let the words flow and see what comes up.
For inspiration, here are 12 Ways to Write A Poem from O magazine.
Day 5
Design a room in your house. Is there a room in your house you have always wanted to redecorate? Use your imagination and pretend you have all of the money you need to make it look the way you want it. Look through magazines or Pinterest for inspiration.
Draw it out freehand, or use this fun, 3-D room designer, from Living Spaces.
Day 6
Color. Remember when you were little, and you would get a new box of crayons? It was the best! You couldn’t wait to dive in and put those colors onto the paper. So many options. Feel that excitement again. You can color freehand or find a color book. Some of the adult coloring books can be so relaxing and meditative to use.
Just in case you didn’t get as excited as I did to color, here is a lesson on How to Color in a Coloring Book.
Day 7
Record a video of yourself. Put your acting skills to the test. Record yourself reciting the poem you wrote on Day 4 or selling a product. You could record your new dance moves or just talk about yourself. Play with the light and background. If you are really brave, post it on social media. Your smartphone is equipped with video capability.
This article and video show you other ways to record a video as well.
Day 8
Learn how to do a needlework craft. This can include knitting, embroidery, cross-stitch, sewing, etc.
Here is a list of the many types of needlework.
Again, there are lots of tutorials on how to do any of those types of needlework. Just pick one and then Google how to. You might just learn how to make all of your Christmas presents this year!
Day 9
Build something. Anything. Whether you are using a hammer and nails or Legos, build something using your imagination. When I was younger, my brothers and I used to make houses and villages out of playing cards. Then we would drive our matchbox cars around. Maybe you could build a birdhouse or a shelf or a small table.

Day 10
Upcycle a piece of clothing. I never really knew this was a thing until recently. But what a great idea to avoid a lot of our clothes from ending up in the dump.

Day 11
Write a story about your life.
Last but not least, write. This is my favorite and my go-to way to be creative. I love to just let words spill out onto the page.
Use this as a prompt to get you started. Your finished writing can end up anywhere. Just put pen to paper and start writing anything about your life. Let your mind wander and see where it takes you. Set your time for 2 minutes or commit to writing 2 pages.
If you find you enjoy writing, here is a tool to use to make it a practice and let your creativity flow. Morning pages from Julia Cameron
There you go, your 11 day creativity challenge.
Once you are done, consider which days were more enjoyable than others. What was easy and which ones did you skip?
I hope you are feeling a little more creative now and will use this as a launching pad into sparking your imagination and transforming it into reality.
