Do you remember all of the fun you had with your kids in the fall? I remember the days when my husband and I would take our kids to the pumpkin patch. We would go on hayrides, pick out our pumpkins and maybe some apples, and enjoy the cool, sunny fall days. Then, we would bring the pumpkins home every year and do our best to carve creative faces. We would put them on the porch and light them up with candles for all of the neighbors to see. We had a huge yard with many trees and made large leaf piles to jump in.

Since my kids left home, I haven’t continued the traditions. We live back from the main road, so if I don’t decorate or put pumpkins out, no one would really know. I think I need to change that this year. It’s time to get out and do all the activities that fall offers. Find some fun fall activities for couples.

14 Fun Fall Activities for Couples

Apple Picking

Living in Minnesota, there are lots of Apple Orchards to choose from. It is fun to discover new varieties. This year, look out for First Kiss, Sweet Tango, Zestar, and Cripps Pink.

Once you’ve strolled the orchard and picked your favorite apples, take them home and bake a delicious apple crisp to enjoy together! See if there is a family recipe you could try. My husband’s grandma made the best apple crisp. You could also try something different, like Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookies, Caramel Apple Mini Cheesecakes, Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce, or just a good old Apple Pie!

Coffee Date

Nothing is better than a hot mug of coffee in your hands on cool fall mornings. Find a cozy coffee shop to taste the pumpkin flavors only available in the fall. Besides the Pumpkin Spiced Latte, you could also try the Maple Cinnamon Latte, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, or Salted Caramel Mocha!

Bring a notebook and write down a new bucket list of things to do together.

Corn Maze

If you are not familiar, a corn maze is a maze cut out of a cornfield. The largest corn maze is in Dixon, CA, at Cool Patch Pumpkins. It is 63 acres, takes 2 hours to get through, and is 3 miles long. The local police station is kept busy during the fall because of frequent emergency calls from within the maze! It might be fun to get lost in a corn maze as a couple, but maybe you should “ping” the opening.

Haunted House

I’m not a fan of haunted anything. But haunted hayrides and houses are everywhere during the fall. Maybe if my husband held my hand the whole time, I’d attempt it!

Pumpkin Patch

It just doesn’t seem like fall or Halloween without a few pumpkins on your doorstep. If you are not a fan of cleaning out the inside and carving, there are many other options! Draw a face, paint it, glitter it, decorate it with leaves, or make it look like a person. Have a contest with your spouse, take pictures, and let your kids vote whose is best.Fall Activities

Here are a few fun facts about pumpkins

  • Over 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins are produced each year in the US.
  • The heaviest pumpkin weighed over 2,600 pounds
  • Every single part of a pumpkin is edible

Fall Hike

The hiking trails are gorgeous this time of year. Cooler temps, fewer crowds, happier dogs, and more tree color. Taking walks with our dog is one of our favorite things to do. Making time every fall is a must.

Road Trip

Search for the Peak Fall Foliage reports in your area to find the best places to go for leaf watching. Take a road trip! Pack lunch and have a picnic along the way.

Bonfire

With the sun setting earlier in the fall, it is a perfect time of year for bonfires. Invite some friends, play some music, have Bailey’s and coffee or hot cider, roast marshmallows or hot dogs, and tell stories.

Travel to New England

Are you a fan of the Fall Hallmark movies? Most of them are filmed in the New England area. You are bound to find a Fall Festival, and I hear the leaves there during peak season are some of the best to see. Schedule a weekend getaway!

Wine Tasting or Grape Picking

September and October are harvest time for most wineries. Take a drive and check them out. Maybe when you are on your road trip, you could find a few wineries along the way.

I joined some girlfriends a few years ago, and we picked grapes for a local winery. That was fun. It’s a great date idea. Later, I bought a bottle of wine that used some of the grapes we picked!

Here are a few fun facts about wine

  • White wine is best at 45-55°F. However, 55-60 degrees is better if it’s a fuller white wine. On the other hand, red wine should be at room temperature, so 59-64 degrees.
  • Both red and white grapes produce the same colored juice—clear. The grape’s skin is the reason that red wine is red.
  • Wine has been around for at least 9000 years.

Cider and Pumpkin Beer Taste Tests

Buy a few variety packs of the fall beer and cider flavors and have a taste-testing party! Make it a part of your bonfire get-together.

Fall activities

Football Game

I’m a sports fan, so watching football in 60-degree weather is one of my favorite things to do. We are Packer fans and try to get to at least one game together each year. But there is football everywhere. Your professional team, college team, high school homecoming game, or even the little kids playing flag football on Saturday mornings. Get decked out in all of your favorite team gear and do a little tailgating ahead of time.

Scarecrow

Build a scarecrow together. Take a trip to the Goodwill store and find some overalls, flannel shirts, hats, or anything you can stuff straw into. Get one small bale of straw and get creative! If you need some help and want directions, check out the website Front Porch Ideas and More.

Fire and a Movie

Of all of the fall activities for couples I have listed, the one that I am most likely to get my husband to do is to stay home, make a fire, enjoy a cocktail, cuddle with a cozy blanket, and watch a movie. He likes action-packed movies, and I like comedies and dramas, but we try to take turns picking movies.

If you need a few ideas, here are some of the top fall movies

  • When Harry met Sally
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
  • Good Will Hunting
  • October Sky
  • Remember the Titans
  • Love Story
  • Sleepy Hollow
  • St. Elmo’s Fire
  • Autumn in New York

Just because the kids are gone doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy some fall activities for couples. What other ideas do you have?
