During times of change and upheaval in the outside world, it is important to maintain some routine in your own inner world. I highly recommend a journal practice every morning. Take the time to process your thoughts and emotions. Don’t let thoughts of worry, anxiety, doom, or fear take over. Use these journal prompts for self reflection to create some calm each morning.

16 Journal Prompts for Self Reflection
What would you do with an extra day if you didn’t have any responsibilities? Would you get caught up, or would you play? How can you make that happen? Make a list of what you can do.
Create some joy in your life. List 5 of your favorite people and connect with one. Create a playlist of your 5 favorite songs. List 5 favorite places you want to visit and learn more about them. Research 5 books you want to read and start reading.
Visualize what you want your life to look like in 5 years. Write down what it looks like. Where will you be living? What will you be doing for money? What will you have achieved? Who will you be with? Now that you are older, wiser, and happier, look back and write down 5 lessons your future self wants your present self to know. Relax, spend more time with family, save money, follow your passion, be more forgiving, have fun, etc.
In what ways can you manage your stress? How can you maintain your healthy habits? Accept that you can’t do it all, make sure you get enough sleep, morning meditations, keep up your exercise schedule, ask for help, listen to fun music, etc. Make a plan.
Are you always searching for validation? Why do you think your life needs to be approved by others? What would you do if you didn’t care if others approved or not?

Reflecting on the past and worrying about the future is a habit that we need to break. How are you feeling right now at this moment? If you don’t like how you feel, how can you change it? Happiness is our goal! Get up and go outside, take deep breaths, call a friend, help your neighbor, journal, do something different, cook something, turn on some music, etc.
Take a few minutes in your morning to be reflective and bring some calm and positive energy to your days! What makes me happy? What am I most grateful for? Who am I thankful for in my life? How can I make a difference in others’ lives this week?
Review your goals. What 2019 goals have I not accomplished? Am I happy with where I am today? What parts of my life would I like to see change? Work, body, mind, spirit, or relationships?
How much fun can you have this year? Journal and visualize how you will make this the best year yet! Where can you travel? Who can you meet? What can you create? How can you play? When can you make time for yourself?
What traffic light best reflects your life right now? Why do you think that, and do you think you are following the right path?

What would your day look like if you were living the life of your dreams? Where would you wake up? (house, location) What time would you wake up? What would your morning routine look like? When would you exercise? Who would you be with? What would you eat? What would you be doing for work/purpose? How would you spend your evening? What time would you go to sleep?
What do you appreciate about your…? body, home, family, friends, job, dreams, relationships, social life, abundance? List out everything you are appreciating. This practice puts you in a high-energy state of love which will attract more of that to you!
What is your SUPERPOWER? What are you really good at? How can you use that in your work, home, and service to others?
If nothing could stand in your way, what would you be doing right now? If you knew you were brave, talented, and capable, what would your life look like?
When it comes to your dreams and passions, fear can hold you back. At the top of a page in your journal, write “What am I afraid of?” Then through a stream of consciousness, write. Next, “How are my fears holding me back?” “What is the worst thing that would happen if I just did it anyway?”

How can you bring more fun and laughter into your life? Watch a funny movie or TV show, call your funniest friend or child, watch YouTube videos, play with your pet, write an intention to laugh more, read the funnies, etc. What else can you come up with?

A bonus journal exercise would be to record your thoughts and feelings during times of crisis. Not only to calm yourself down but also to record how you got through it.
