The definition of a midlife crisis is a transition of identity and self-confidence that can occur in middle-aged individuals, typically 45 to 65 years old. When I was growing up, that always meant a husband leaving his wife for a younger woman, buying a red sports car, and driving out of town fast. Having a midlife crisis seemed obvious and something drastic that you might do. But, now that I fall in that age range, I see that a midlife crisis can be more subtle.

Like trying to understand who you are at this age or finding your purpose after the kids have left home, or trying to discover what you want to do with the rest of your life.

It can be overwhelming.

So, answer these journal prompts to help you sort out your thoughts and feelings and to help you avoid a midlife crisis of your own. Pick the ones that make sense to you. Writing helps you become more in tune with your inner needs and desires. And if you can discover those and then take baby steps to achieve them, you may be able to avoid that midlife crisis!
