A couple of years ago I bought my first set of Oracle cards. I wasn’t sure what I was doing with them, but I knew that every time I pulled a card, it made sense. I learned more about how to use Oracle cards and now I have six decks. They are a great tool to use to receive guidance when you are feeling confused, overwhelmed, or just need some insight.
Before I begin to show you how you can use Oracle cards, I thought I would pull one from my favorite deck and see what comes up.
By Changing My Story, I Can Change My Point of Attraction – As you find a better-feeling thought, your point of attraction shifts – right now!
From the Health and the Law of Attraction Cards by Esther and Jerry Hicks.
That is a powerful card for me because whenever I am feeling unworthy or fearful, I know I can just change my story to find a better feeling thought. And when we are on the higher, better-feeling end of the emotional scale, we attract more of those feelings.
Did the card mean something to you that you needed today?
Oracle cards are simply pieces of paper through which the divine speaks. But don’t let that be scary! When you hear the divine, Universe, God, Source, etc., speak to you, you are only hearing your own inner spirit. You still have control over what you believe and want to act on.
But one thing I like to teach is that our brains are not big enough to have all of the answers, so it is nice to have direct access to the Universe.
Now let me tell you how I use my cards.
How To Use Oracle Cards to Receive the Guidance You Need
First, you need to find a deck of cards that resonates with you. There are a lot of them out there. Do some research and look around. Pay attention to how each deck makes you feel and choose the one you feel the best energetic connection to.
Find a sacred space. You might want to set the mood and get yourself in the right frame of mind before you pull your cards. Check out this post for more ideas.
Match the cards with your own energy. Take them out of the box and hold them next to your heart. The purpose of this is to clear any old energy from the cards and connect them to your own. Say a quick prayer or statement asking the Universe to clear away any energy that is not yours. You only have to do this if someone else touches your cards or if you want to clear and start over.
Ask a question. Ask the Universe what you need to be answered. Here is a list of examples.
- What do I need to know most right now?
- Why does this feel hard?
- Why do I feel like I’m stuck?
- How am I getting in my own way?
- How can I serve today?
- What fear do I need to release right now?
- How can I shift the energy around this?
- Which of my traits is my best support right now?
- What would help me feel happier in my life?
- What guidance am I not listening to?
You don’t want to ask yes or no questions or questions that need a specific answer. Obviously, there are too many possibilities to fit in one deck of cards.

You also do not have to ask a question at all, you can choose one card a day or whenever you are looking for guidance. Many decks offer card spreads as well. In those, you may choose up to six cards at a time. There really is no right or wrong way.
Shuffle the cards and choose the one that feels right to you. It might be one that is sticking out, the one on top or bottom, or any random card that you feel called to.
Whatever card(s) you draw, that is what is meant for you. Don’t search for the one you think you need. You are asking for guidance from your higher spirit and remember that we as humans cannot know all the answers. Let the Universe take the lead.
Write down what it says, study the picture, and notice how it makes you feel. Maybe you will want to do some journaling around it. Everything you see and feel is part of the answer to your question. Trust it and let it sit with you if it doesn’t make sense right away. You may experience an aha moment later.
Many card decks also come with a guidebook. These often have more explanations for you. Again, trust the message and see how you can apply it to your question.
And that’s it!
Now you have a message that can reset your thinking about a particular situation. It’s a more hands-on way to get guidance from the Universe if you don’t always trust your intuition.
I love using my Oracle cards. I try to pull cards every Monday to set some intentions for my week.
Here is an example of how I use Oracle cards –
I pulled 3 cards. The first one was for my head, the second one was for my body, and the third was for my heart.
Card #1 – Pillar of Light – Your Vibration is Rising
The Universe dances together through me, I am the Oracle. Am I listening to the voice within me?
Card #2 – Mirror – What is triggering me?
Look for what might be triggering me to think of myself as less than beautiful.
Card #3 – Dance with Life – Do something to change your energy.
You cannot solve a problem with the same energy that created it. It’s time to dance with the beat of life – go with the flow.
I journaled around each one and then looked back every morning that week and applied them to any questions I had.
Each card I pick has a meaning I can apply to my life and I allow the Universe to take part in my decisions. The guidance I receive when I use Oracle cards is amazing.
Will you give them a try?
