Mother’s Day is coming up!  And, whether you had the best mom, the worst mom, or the non-existent mom, she definitely taught you something about how to live your life.  Whatever that was, thank her for it.

Sometimes it is hard to know how your mother has shaped your life until she is gone.  You might take her for granted while you are living with her side by side.  Once she is gone, you remember everything that you miss about her and wish you could have her back.  You need to thank mom for those things and use to make the most of your own life now.  If you are lucky enough to still have your mother, pay attention to what she does, that makes you happy or feel loved.

I asked some friends about their favorite memories of their moms and what she taught them.  Here are some of their responses.

  • Always be positive and hopeful
  • There is always someone worse off than you
  • Wear bright lipstick and keep a smile on your face
  • Her wonderful cooking skills
  • Believe in God, always be kind, and love unconditionally
  • How a smile and a “look” can make everything OK
  • Have a great sense of humor and laugh
  • Remain strong, even through hard times
  • She was always available for anything I needed
  • Have a little bit of fun every day
  • She believed in me
  • I will never forget her love for my dad
  • She taught me how to live an honest, happy, and authentic life
  • Dare to always be your best self
  • She would do anything to make me smile

Ways To Thank Your Mom

What you can write on a card:

Thank you for being the first place my heart could call home, mom.

I am so thankful that God made you my mom.

Mom, I don’t always take the time to tell you how much I am thankful for you and everything you have done. I love you.

For all those things you didn’t have to do for me, I thank you, Mom, for those and even those you felt obligated to do.

Dear Mom, I’m sorry for the worry that I have ever put you through as I learned from my mistakes, and you still helped carry me through. I love you, and thank you.

I’m so lucky, mom, that the apples don’t fall very far from the tree.

Now that I’m older, mom, thank you for never leaving me in a shopping cart and running away even though I know how tempting it was. Enjoy a laugh and accept my gratitude.
