As I enjoy another vacation that takes me away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I was inspired to write this poem. I saw a photo on the bedroom wall of our rental home that said, ‘I am renewed again with the joy of living,’ and I just started writing.
Renewed Again
I stand on your wet, shifting sand and breathe in your sweet, salty air.
As I watch your rolling turquoise waves and feel the sun’s warmth, I am renewed again with the joy of living.
I sense stress releasing, and I take in the pure relaxation.
While I stare at the blowing palms and mesmerizing water, I feel at peace.
I am renewed again.
I devour new foods and embrace new traditions.
Schedules and routines slip away.
The “shoulds” and “should nots” no longer matter.
I see my love with fresh eyes.
I am renewed again; this is the joy of living.
The Joy of Living
Sometimes, it takes getting away from everyday life to really see what matters most.
What do you do when you have the time to do whatever you want?
For me, I write, read, and learn. Then, I use what I’ve discovered to inspire others. Your gifts are meant to be shared. What would you share if you had the time?
What do you have that someone else could benefit from? Whether you share it with the world or only within your family circle, your contributions are a blessing.
Ways to Feel Renewed Again
If you can’t take a vacation right now, dedicate a few hours to reflection. Notice what activities no longer bring you joy, and consider how to shift your focus. For example, you could create a mini-retreat at home. Light a candle, play calming music, and spend an hour doing something you love—reading, journaling, painting, or simply sitting in silence.
Trying something new can also help. For instance, cook a dish from a culture you admire, take a different route on your walk, or experiment with a creative hobby you’ve always wanted to try. Letting go of one “should” and replacing it with something that lights you up can make a difference.
Feeling renewed isn’t always about where you are; it’s about opening your senses to the beauty around you and within you. Like the shifting sand and turquoise waves in the poem, renewal comes when we pause to release stress, savor life’s simple pleasures, and see our world—and ourselves—with fresh eyes. Take a breath, let go of what doesn’t serve you, and embrace the joy of living that helps you feel renewed again.
