With all of the technology we use now, sending actual handwritten letters to friends and family has become almost obsolete. Birthday greetings are all done by text or social media these days. But one habit I have been trying to make a non-negotiable is to write notes or letters and actually put them in the mail. To give me a little cheat sheet, I have found my favorite friendship card quotes and messages to get me started.
About a year ago, a friend of mine sent me a friendship card in the mail to thank me for thinking of her after an illness. It was a simple piece of paper with a picture on it, and then she handwrote her message on the back of it. I loved it. For someone to take the time to think of you, write something, and put it in the mail, you know it was heartfelt.
My favorite part was that it was a simple act, and that small gesture made a big impact.
I am lucky to have lots of great friends and family members. But we all get caught up in our own lives and forget to make sure they know what we think of them.
All you need to send a note is a blank piece of paper, an envelope, and a stamp. I like to use blank note cards like these.

The problem is that you have to think of what to write. That is where these quotes and messages will come in handy.
Find one that means something to the relationship you have with the person you are sending the card to, then tweak it to be personal.

My suggestion is to keep a box of note cards at your desk or in a place you pay your bills as a reminder to send out a quick note to a friend or family member. Let’s spread some happiness and appreciation. Put a smile on someone’s face today!
My doctors receptionist is retiring after 30 years of service. She is not just a receptionist, but a true friend who has gotten me through a lot of bad times. I would love to write her a special greeting to say how much I miss her. Can you help me?
Maybe tell her a couple of ways she has given you comfort and then tell her how much of a difference she made in your life and you are very appreciative. How does that sound?
I love this website
Thanks Rebecca!
Hi Laurie!
This is wonderful! I try to do the same thing, thanks to my sister-in-law. She has always been so good at sending cards and messages to family and friends, not only for birthdays, but in between too! Going to visit them in California, I saw she had one of those store rack card holders FULL of cards she collected.
So once I got home I ordered one for myself and started collecting all kinds of cards. It’s become an inexpensive hobby. I’m not as good as always sending them out, but I’m trying to be!
I agree with you that the art of writing has been lost. I remember when I was young writing to a pen pal (do children today even know what that is?). Also now and then writing to my grandma that lived in Robinsdale. I can now only imagine how she may have smiled when she received a letter from me.
Thank you for churning up some good memories. Now, I’m ready to send more cards and notes out!
Colleen
Thanks for your beautiful comment Colleen. I love the idea of a card rack, I might start looking for one of those. I love having cards at the ready when I feel inspired to send one.
